Drew Hunthausen, The No Excuses Blind Guy – Inspirational and Motivational Speaker: Embracing The Journey With No Excuses

Never be afraid to try something new. Remember, amateurs built the ark; professionals built the Titanic. ~Author Unknown

This past weekend my dad and I went down to the beach to get some fresh air and take a walk. As we approached Main Street, dad told me that it was closed off due to a classic car show. Even though I wasn’t able to see any of the cars, I was intrigued, and looking forward to seeing a few after we had breakfast. As we walked up and down the street working off our meal, I was fascinated as dad described the cars and told me some of the history connected with them.

I do often lament the fact that I have not had the experience of being a regular driver on the road. However, I have had the fun experience of driving a golf cart down the fairway with a sighted person barking directions, a little right, a little left,… I even once drove a pickup truck around an open Montana field under the cheering but watchful eye of my sister, Chelsea. It was a blast!Drew standing by 51 Woody

Thank goodness those of us who are blind cannot be regular drivers on the open road. Can you imagine! Isn’t it wonderful, though, that we can have a little fun driving a golf cart down a long par 5 fairway, or in an open country field with our little sister cheering us on. If we choose to, we can even have a great time looking at classic cars through the eyes of another. The 51 Ford Woody in this picture was quite nice. For a little fun I posted it on FB indicating I was the only blind judge at the show, and this was my pick.

You can always lament and get stuck in self-pity for what you have lost or don’t have, or make excuses for why you won’t step out a little and try something a little bit scary or uncomfortable -– believe me, I’ve been guilty of both.

What you learn is that it’s how you deal with the challenges you face that makes all the difference. You can make excuses that only hold you back in life, or you can choose to focus on being grateful for what you have, and the wonderful possibilities that life still holds for you.

The choice is yours each morning of whether you want it to be a good day or a day filled with regret, worry, and excuses. I encourage you to make it a wonderful day. Get out there and take a risk and do something new and exciting, even if it might seem a little crazy, scary, or uncomfortable.

And always remember that the best is yet to come!
