Drew Hunthausen Motivational and Inspirational Speaker: Living In the Season of the Moment

Live in the moment pic“What we did yesterday is fantasy, as is what we will do tomorrow. The only thing that is real, is the present moment.  We need to remember yesterday just enough to learn from our experiences, and focus on tomorrow just enough to plan for the future, but live in the moment to truly experience what is real”.                 Have you ever found yourself so focused on the future, what’s coming next, that you unconsciously zone out during an important conversation or time you are spending with a friend or loved one? Have you found  yourself so occupied with the meeting that you have tomorrow, the report you have to write, or maybe the speech you have to give, that you somehow fail to be truly aware of the present moment? I know I have.

Perhaps you are feeling guilty about something you said to someone yesterday, or embarrassed about what you perceived a friend or colleague might be thinking about you, or regretful of decision or action you took at some time in the past. Consequently your thoughts and focus are on these things at the expense of enjoying the present moment. I’ve been guilty of this too.

Often when preparing for a speech or writing out a presentation, I find myself caught up in the fear, worry, and excitement of it all, and I do forget to live in the moment. It could be fear that the speech might not be good enough based on a past experience when it might not have gone so well, or worry that the audience won’t like it or be inspired. It might even be the excitement of the potential inspiration and positive reaction. If you are like me, regret and worry can be the biggest villains that steal our present moment.

My prayer is for you is that you will learn what it means to truly live “in the moment”. Let go of the worry and regret because, after all, they are only an exercise in fantasy.

The scriptures teach us that our past is forgiven and our future is secure. The present moment is ours to embrace!

Always remember that the best is yet to come!
